Sylvester Stallone
Sylvester Stallone's first starring role was
in a softcore pornography feature film titled, Party at Kitty
and Stud's, made in 1970. The film was later re-released under
a new title, Italian Stallion. The producers wanted to capitalise
on Stallone's sudden rise to the Hollywood A-list after the
phenomenal success of Rocky, a film Sylvester Stallone wrote
in three days after watching the Muhammed Ai V Chuck Wepner
fight. He wrote Rocky with the intention of playing the lead
and refused to sell the rights to interested producers, Robert
Chartoff and Irwin Winkler, until they agreed he would be cast as Rocky. That took serious
courage and proves that in real-life he is a match for Rambo
and Rocky combined...
After Rocky came Rocky II, also written by Sylvester
Stallone with him directing as well. Then F.I.S.T., Paradise
Alley, Escape To Victory with Michael Caine and Nighthawks
with Rutger Hauer... Then he made my favourite film, the classic,
First Blood, where Sylvester Stallone launches Rambo at the
world. First Blood is a gritty and beautifully crafted film
by director Ted Kotcheff and John Rambo is magnificently brought
to life by Sylvester Stallone. For me, Sylvester Stallone's
portrayal is a master class in acting and in the final scene
where Rambo breaks down, Sylvester Stallone superbly expresses
every soldier who has ever gone to war. My Cheeks flood with
tears every time I watch it... (I am a soldier who has experienced
war).
I also have to mention Cliffhanger and Demolition
Man, where Stallone stars with the excellent Sandra Bullock,
and The Specialist with Sharon Stone and James Woods...
