Shirley MacLaine
Shirley MacLaine made two film in 1955 and began
her film career pretty much with a bang when she co-starred
in Alfred Hitchcock's The Trouble With Harry and straight
after made Models And Artists with Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.
She didn't stop there, next up was the classic, Around The
World In Eighty Days with David Niven.
I have always thought of Shirley MacLaine as
a girl I want to kiss. She's got great twinkling eyes and
a cute, often wicked smile on a very pretty face that is just
so kissable... Okay, I'll shut up now and stop embarrassing
myself...
One of the most memorable Shirley MacLaine films,
in my opinion, is The Sheepman, where she starred with the
great Glenn Ford. And in 1960 Shirley MacLaine had a great
year, first starring in the musical Can Can with Frank Sinatra
and next up MacLaine was directed by Billy Wilder in the great
classic, Apartment where she starred with Jack Lemmon and
found herself nominated for a second Academy Award for best actress.
Another film I loved Shirley MacLaine in is
My Geisha and for her role in her next film she teamed up
with Jack Lemmon and director Billy Wilder again for Irma
La Douce and received another Oscar nomination for best actress.
My favourite Shirley MacLaine film is Two Mules
For Sister Sara where she starred with Clint Eastwood and
we have to mention Being There where she starred with the
great Peter Sellers, but, after four nominations for an Oscar
for best actress, Shirley MacLaine wasn't to win until she
made the classic Terms Of Endearment with Jack Nicholson.
I also like her in Postcards From The Edge and thought she
was excellent in Guarding Tess, where she stars as the First
Lady making a lot of trouble for her bodyguard, Nicholas Cage,
and, of course, we cannot forget Steel Magnolias where Shirley
was part of a stunning, all-star cast in a wonderfully touching,
poignant, often funny story where I still cry when Shelby
(Julia Roberts character) dies...
Shirley MacLaine continues to make great films
and she still has those twinkling eyes and wicked smile...
