Sylvester Stallone is Rambo |
Rambo VIf you are looking for an action packed film, Rambo V is a must watch. If you are looking for a film offering deeper insight into the he-man action heroes, this film is certainly a film to watch. Sylvester Stallone has played Rambo in five films now. In First Blood: Part 1 we learn a lot about John Rambo. Sylvester brilliantly lays bare the characters soul as he clings to his colonel and cries his heart out. The we see him exploring his spiritual side in the opening of the third Rambo film opens in a buddhist community with Rambo living the simple life. In Rambo five we find John Rambo on a river boat in deep in Asia near the border with Burma with the Burmese military government commiting genocide on its own people. Now we find a quiet man, content on his own and only wanting to be left alone. This is a man who contemplates a life of action whilst we get the distinct feeling he happier with snakes than people. A Christian missionary hires Rambo to carry a group of mercenaries into Burma to rescue a group of missionaries Rambo had strongly advised to go home early in the film. With heavy resignation, Rambo agrees to help and once again embarks on a feast of brutality as he, once again, takes on a whole army. Many will argue the violence is gratuitous, I will argue it is the raw reality of war anf Rambo is, first and foremost a soldier. Tim Rees
