Morgan Freeman

In 1980 Morgan Freeman was in Brubaker with Robert Redford, but it wasn't until 1989 and a starring role in Driving Miss Daisy that Morgan Freeman really entered the A-list of Hollywood and we all really began to see the emormous talent of this great actor. He was very deservedly nominated for an Oscar for best actor for his role in Driving Miss Daisy. Immediately before Driving Miss Daisy he had played Sergeant Major John Rawlins in Glory and in 1991 Morgan Freeman starred with Kevin Costner in Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. After Robin Hood came my favourite Morgan Freeman film, Unforgiven where he co-starred with Clint Eastwood who also directed. But many would argue with my choice of favourite because in 1994 Morgan Freeman made the great classic The Shawshank Redemption. Since we have had Seven, Outbreak, Chain Reaction, Steven Spielberg's Amistad, a truly great film that makes me angry and sad, ashamed and tearful... Deep Impact... Morgan Freeman doesn't stop working! The list goes on and on and every film is worth mentioning... The man is a colossus! But I have to mention Million Dollar Baby and great entertainment film, Bruce Almighty and The Contract... If I was to mention every Morgan Freeman film I'd have to write a book....

Morgan Freeman's latest movie is Invictus where he brilliantly plays Nelson Mandela. The film is superbly directed, or should I say crafted, by Clint Eastwood and in my opinion it it a genuine masterpice.

The Hollywood Movie History

The greats of the silent movie period included Rudolf Valentino, Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Laurel & Hardy and a whole host of stars whose talents live on in the many characters they portrayed. Jean Harlow is perhaps the most successful of the stars who began their career in the silent era and whose star continued in ascendancy into the talkies. The western film genre has been the birth place for many great film stars, not least of which is the Great John Wayne. Blockbuster movies dominated the 80's and 90's with Silvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis competing for the title greatest action hero of them all... and then Matt Damon brought Ludlum's character Jason Bourne to life all too vividly and a whole new action hero was born.
And, although great women's roles are still all to rare, Vivien Leigh's Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With The Wind, Marilyn Monroe's Sugar Kane in Some Like It Hot, Grace Kelly as Tracy Lord in High Society, Michelle Pfeifer in the Baker Boys and Julie Roberts in Erin Brockovich are just a few great and memorable perfomances I have experience by women in the movies...
