Julia Roberts
Pretty Woman has got to be on my top ten list
of favourite movies and I would like to begin there when writing
about Julia Roberts, but I can't ignore Steel Magnolias, made
in 1989, or Flatliners, made in the 1990, the same year as
Pretty Woman... In fact, every film Julia Roberts is in could
genuinely be on my list of favourites... Let us take a peek
at the 1991 film Sleeping With The Enemy, and earlier that
year Julia had made Dying Young, a moving and poignant film
that causes serious pause for thought... But hey! Hold on,
my favourite has got to be Julia Roberts as Darby Shaw in
John Grisham's Pelican Brief, but that would mean her performance
as Erin Brockovich isn't my number one and that film just
has to be my number one, doesn't it? Do you get my problem...
Julia Roberts makes excellent films and her portrayal of whatever
character hits the mark every time... Every film is memorable
for very different reasons... Every movie with Julia Roberts
leaves a special, although not always pleasant, taste in the
mouth... And The Mexican, where Julia Roberts stars with Brad
Pitt, we have a great line that has really stayed with me.
The line is where Julia Roberts character asks Leroy, James
Gandolfini's character, an assassin who's ashamed to be gay,
"If you really love someone, like, I mean, really, really
love someone, and that person is messing you around, when
is the time you say enough is enough?" James Gandolfini's
character, Leroy, ponders this for a moment then says "never".
It is a wonderful question and it is the perfect answer. At
the end of the film, Julia Roberts character asks the same
question of Brad Pitt's character and, after a moments thought,
he too answers with the perfect answer and it is the perfect
end to a great film...
But, hey! I can't finish without mentioning
Runaway Bride, where Julia Roberts co-stars with Richard Gere
again. The film is just delightful...
