Jodie Foster
Jodie Foster is having one major stellar career.
She is the brightest star in a galaxy of stars. Jodie Foster
isn't just an actress, she is a genuine artist...
Let's begin with Bugsy Malone where Jodie Foster
played a gangster's moll, then Taxi Driver where, at the age
of 14, Jodie Foster played an underage prostitute in a film
starring Robert De Niro... A gangster's moll, an underage
prostitute! Jodie Foster has never held back. She is fearless,
and she has the talent to back it up. After a load of films
including Foxes and Candleshoe, with David Niven, Jodie Foster
took on the demanding and troubling role of a rape victim
in Accused, for which Jodie Foster won a very deserved Oscar
for best actress. Jodie's portrayal of Sarah Tobias made me
uncomfortably angry and it also made me think very deeply
- in short, I had an experience that affected me and I realise
that that is the power of Jodie Foster's talent. And as I
look back on all the films with Jodie Foster, I realise each
one has afforded me an experience. Let us consider Little
Man Tate, which Jodie also directed. I challenge anyone to
tell me watching that film isn't a profound experience. Silence
Of The Lambs, another Oscar for best actress for Jodie Foster
and a deeply disturbing experience for the rest of us. Nell,
a wonderful film and a poignant experience, Panic Room, well
that is one hell of an experience! My heart was doing flip-back
somersaults! Contact, I love that film and thank Jodie for
sharing the experience of hope the film gave me. Flightplan,
an intiguing film and an intiguing experience and we must
not forget Inside Man and The Brave One...
I'm struggling to think of an actress living
today who becomes the character they portray at the subliminal
level Jodie Foster achieves, and yet her performances are
often driven on intensity. The audience very quickly forget
they are watching Jodie Foster as are seduced into the character
and forced to live the experience. Art, for me, is about the
experience, and an artist is one who offers an experience.
Jodie Foster is both. She is the art and she is the artist...
