Goldie Hawn
The role which brought Goldie Hawn to international
attention was as one of the regular cast members on the 60's
comedy show, Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. The show was made
up of a series of sketches with familiar characters in different
sketches every week. Goldie Hawn's main character was the
"dumb-blond" and, in my opinion, she was the true
star of the show, along with the guy who played the German
who every week used to rise up from the grass and whisper
the words, "Velly interesting...". Goldie Hawn is
certainly blonde and stunninghly beautiful, but she is anything
but dumb. She has used her exceptional sex appeal simply as
a top-up on her genuine comedic and dramatic talent. Who would
believe that kooky beauty is now in her fifth decade of making
great entertainment. In the 60's she gave us the fore mentioned
Rowan & Martin's Laugh In and Cactus Flower, in which
she starred with Walter Matthau and Ingrid Bergman and found
herself nominated for best supporting actress at the Academy
Awards. Then she started the 70's off in terrific style with
the classic British movie, There's A Girl In My Soup with
Peter Sellers. Next came Shampoo with Warren Beaty and Julie
Christie and The Sugarland Express, the first theatrical feature
film directed by Steven Spielberg, and The Duchess And The
Dirtwater Fox with George Segal and Foul Play with Chevy Chase.
And then in 1980, Goldie Hawn made the classic and brilliant
Private Benjamin, which rocketed her to stella super stardom
and saw Goldie Hawn receive her second Oscar nomination, this
time for best actress. The film offers poured in and Goldie
was kept very busy throughout the 80's, but two films I have
to mention are the wonderfully witty, Protocol, one of my
all time favourites and, in my opinion, a film that totally
relies upon Goldie Hawn's incredible talent. Then, yet another
of my favourites, the hilarious and touching, OverBoard, where
Goldie stars with her husband, Kurt Russell. And then Goldie
Hawn begins the 90's with another classic in Bird On A Wire
with Mel Gibson followed by the intriguing and dramatic Deceived,
and another great drama in CrissCross. I'll pause for breath
here as I am about to mention the fantastic, the funny, the
moving, HouseSitter with Steve Martin. It is a film I adore.
I laugh and I cry, I sing and I shout when I watch that film.
Goldie Hawn is brilliant and, in my opinion, she outshines
Steve Martin, who I consider one of America's greatest comedic
talents - in fact, he should have his own page! I'll have
to sort that... Back to the 90's... After HouseSitter Goldie
Hawn stars in Death Becomes Her, with Meryl Streep and Bruce
Willis and The First Wives Club where Goldie stars with Diane
Keaton and Bette Midler. The 21st century has yet to see a
Goldie Hawn classic in the making, but The Banger Sisters,
where Goldie starred with Susan Sarandon, earned her a Golden
Globe nomination for best actress and in 2008 Goldie Hawn
made her directorial debut with Ashes To Ashes.... Goldie
Hawn remains one of the brightest sparkling star among stars...
